PAY THE RENT

IS A SIMPLE POLICY

The lands we live and work on always were and always will be Aboriginal lands. Sovereignty was never ceded, and Anglo-Australia certainly didn’t “pay the rent.” As a feminist organisation, we donate 10% of annual festival revenue to an organisation that supports Indigenous women.

Worawa Aboriginal Girls College - 2017 recipient

The College is a combination of both mainstream education and Aboriginal culture, knowledge, values and belief. Our donation supported the installation of a soundscape on The Worawa Dreaming Trail; a cultural space at the College that the girls use for dance, song, food and culture. The soundscape provides the cultural narrative and traditional music for the girls dances.

Karrabing Film Collective - 2018 recipient

Karrabing are an Indigenous media group from the Belyuen community; Emmiyangal and Batjamalh mob. They use filmmaking to interrogate the conditions of inequality for Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory and to retain connections to land and their ancestors. Our donation is being put towards intergenerational women's business.
